All-in Global is the #1 language service provider for the iGaming industry. With 12 years of data we believe it’s relevant for our viewers to know how our localization projects are divided. Our staff tend to choose “marketing creative” when it’s not clear how a project should be classified, so this number is often too high in comparison.

The Challenges of iGaming Localization in Croatian
Gaming content in Croatian, is usually straightforward, informal and easy-going. Croats have a good understanding of the English language, and are therefore well acquainted with gaming, poker, and casino terminology in English. This has been changing through the years, but English terms still remain familiar to players.
So, for example, they are used to come across with some words in English, such as “casino” instead of the Croatian equivalent “kasino” (or “kockarnica”), or even game-specific terms like “Wild” – although they would need to be explained in Help files.
This, however, leads to the main pitfall in gaming, poker and website translations into Croatian. What should and what should not be left in English?
There are official government texts about running a casino, but no recognised dictionary exists for gaming-specific terms, and translators are left to their own decisions.
It’s common to see Gaming websites that are often poorly translated in Croatian due to a lack of functional testing. For example, one simple word such as “bet” can be translated in Croatian in numerous ways. It can be translated as a noun “oklada”, a prediction, or “ulog”, a stake, or as a verb in imperative form “kladi se”, or as “klađenje”, a nominal verb.
For example, you publish an online slot game called “Wizard of Oz”, and the name of the game, obviously, remains in English. However, in the game, if faced with the common name “scarecrow”, the translator would translate it as any other term “strašilo” – thereby leaving a dubious situation of a double translated term.
Similar situation is found when faced with common gaming terms – for example, slots: “Wild”, “Scatter”, “Free Spins” etc. One would be tempted to translate them, yet they may be hard-coded on buttons, or there might not be room for them in Croatian (Wild = “Zamjenski simbol”).
Another difficult difference to navigate is the fact that Croatian has more grammatical cases than English, as well as gender, and plural differences. One of the nastiest situations is when you have an English plural word – say, “Free Spins”, the client wishes the term to stay in English and assumes the “s” is understood – but in Croatian there is no “s” plural, so you have to manipulate sentences so that plural is understood, but the Croatian grammar is still respected.
The best solution for gaming websites (the same goes for all translations in the field: poker, gaming, casino, website localization, etc.) would be to have them translated in full, but also functionally tested before publication to see that each term fits the context properly. Fortunately, at All-in Global you got this issue covered as we offer the Full – Context Review service at a very competitive price. The safest way to getting great results is to review the content after it has been uploaded in its full context. Only this way you can ensure that everything looks and sounds as it should.

CROATIAN ONLINE GAMING MARKET: CURRENT STATUS
CROATIAN ONLINE GAMING MARKET: POTENTIAL STATUS
WHY CHOOSE US FOR YOUR CROATIAN PROJECT?
With iGaming giants NetEnt releasing games in the regulated Croatian market in 2020, there has been no better time for the (over18) population of Croatia to enjoy a touch of online gaming, be it a cheeky spin on slots, a few hands of classic blackjack or a round or two on roulette.
Operators leading the field in the current Croatian market are SuperSport, Germania and Arena Casino – with more to follow shortly.
Regulation in the Balkan country is planning to be enforced by the Croatian Ministry of Finance that will make registration compulsory for foreign online casinos operating in Croatia.
Experts are questioning the move as the Croatian government is reluctant to tax online casinos, in an industry with an estimated worth of 2 billion Kuna (267 million Euro) per annum, yet this likely set to change. With more and more operators assessing Croatia as a viable and profitable market, it won’t be long until there is an influx of international operators in the country.
We recommend you to involve your language service provider as early as possible in the Croatian localization process. This way, you will avoid pitfalls and the need to rework later, meaning you will experience no delays in getting your global growing going. We are quick, reliable, and a highly trusted partner across the gaming industry.
We have a world-class localization team for Croatian and have spent the last decade recruiting Croatian writers with a big passion for games and sports and an impeccable understanding of iGaming terminology. We also offer SEO and audiovisual services in Croatian. Contact salesteam@all-in.global or click the button to request a quote.
