All-in Global is the #1 language service provider for the iGaming industry. With 12 years of data we believe it’s relevant for our viewers to know how our localization projects are divided. Our staff tend to choose “marketing creative” when it’s not clear how a project should be classified, so this number is often too high in comparison.

THE CHALLENGES OF IGAMING LOCALIZATION IN ALBANIAN
Translation of websites, apps and games is increasingly gaining more importance with international brands adding Albanian language in their language list and new players emerging in the local market too.
Localization of digital content for the Albanian market poses numerous challenges, one of them being the lack of standard terminology in the field. The term is approved as “digjital” by Akademia e Shkencave in the most recent dictionary of Albanian, but in general usage it is “dixhital” under influence of English spelling, even for those who would choose the standard form in writing. So a proper localization always needs to consider the user’s choice of words and the local context too.
What is particular in Albanian language is the usage of loanwords from neighboring Italian and the influence of the English language in more recent times. While “jack” in playing card is “fanti” in Albanian (from “fante” in Italian) and “bet slip” becomes “skedinë” (from “schedina” in Italian), recent terms are following English word choices and spelling (“dixhital, online, live”). A perfect example would be “slot machine” that is referred to as “makineta me xhetona” in Albanian (“macchinetta a gettone” in Italian) for the physical machines, but as “makina slot” for their online digital versions.
Another challenge for the game localization process is also the limitation of display size, especially as more context is needed to fit the smaller phone screens. The Albanian language usually requires a 30% expansion in translation with grammar ending for almost all main parts of speech (two additional characters per word) and extensive usage of articles.
But grammar presents its own specific challenges and requirements. Apart from the character limitations in display, it also requires more context as pronouns, adjectives and even verbs should match the modifier noun. So the term for “valid” would be “i vlefshëm” when it refers to a masculine word as “code” but “e vlefshme” for a feminine word as “account”. They also have two other forms for each of them in plural. The verbs pose another issue as “confirmed” would be an adjective with gender and number endings from the modifier (see above), it needs to be “konfirmova” in simple past tense but “konfirmuar” if it is the past participle as in status.
Context is key in this case and localizing iGaming content into Albanian requires a team of native translators with experience in the field. At All-in Global we only hire talented professionals that will assure that your iGaming content is flawless and ready to engage with your audience.
