All-in Global is the #1 language service provider for the iGaming industry. With 12 years of data we believe it’s relevant for our viewers to know how our localization projects are divided. Our staff tend to choose “marketing creative” when it’s not clear how a project should be classified, so this number is often too high in comparison.

THE CHALLENGES OF IGAMING LOCALIZATION IN SLOVAK

The whole translation process from English to Slovak in iGaming field can be described as quite fluent without any major issues. If we omit poor quality of source texts and illogical constructions (from time to time) that are impossible to decode even with many years of experience under ones belt, localization is the one that can be marked as problematic.

Betting and gambling are quite widespread in Slovakia and also the poker has gradually established its ground. Therefore many interesting issues have been brought to the world of translation. In the case of classical betting on sports events, the terminology is simple and easy to understand. Gambling containing various functions is a real sticker for translators. Scatter, for example, the word that has no equivalent in Slovak that would be approximately of the same length or importance. Slots have limited space in the interface so a descriptive form cannot be used. When searching for a correct term it was found that the translation is most suited to the original name in connection with the word symbol – symbol Scatter. Players are familiar with this word and that´s why there are no problems in understanding the functions and games while playing. Another good example is the Wild symbol. In this case, contrary to previous, was found more than one equivalent: in combination with the word symbol as symbol Wild, fully localized Žolík or Zástupný symbol and some translators prefer version Divoký symbol. There is no consensus regarding the usage, but preferred versions are unlocalized symbol Wild and localized phrase Divoký symbo. So we have two similar and quite common functions from gambling field but with totally different outputs.

For poker, the emphasis was on the localization strength of hands and gaming features. In the case of the first-mentioned area some expressions have been localized, such as “Pair – Dvojica“, “Straight – Postupka”. Postupka is not a literary expression according to the Slovak grammar, but the players themselves use that term, and it would be unnecessary to artificially create a new expression that would not be caught on and would be a little awkward. On the other hand, the expression Full House is not localized, because there is no suitable equivalent in Slovak. The term Full House means in Slovak “Plný dom” (house that is full) – a term that a poker player has neither used it nor heard it. The same approach was followed in the case of expressions Big Blind, Small Blind, which remained non-localized.

Those were just a few examples of the not quite obvious complexity of iGaming translation process. At first sight, it may look simple but you need to understand the whole mechanism behind it to create a flawless masterpiece. And that takes some time. So either you decide to do it on your own and after 10 years the result will be probably satisfactory or you can save precious time and rely on pros like All-in Global that have experience localizing iGaming content for more than a decade.

SLOVAK ONLINE GAMING MARKET: CURRENT STATUS

SLOVAK ONLINE GAMING MARKET: POTENTIAL

WHY CHOOSE US FOR YOUR SLOVAK PROJECT?

The new Gambling Act, initiated in 2018 and coming into force on 1 March 2019 effectively saw the demonopolisation of the Slovakia iGaming market, opening up to allow any member state of the EU to operate unhindered by the Slovakian government.

If you’ve got a spare €3,000,000 or thereabouts, you can happily pay the iGaming license fee. With license terms ranging from between two and 10 years, some operators may find this fee slightly on the excessive side. Add into the mix the fact the operator’s servers must be based in Slovakia and full access granted to the Slovak authorities, there are more than just a few hoops to be jumped through to establish an iGaming operation in Slovakia.

Due to the potential legislative headache for iGaming operators, most online operators are of domestic origin and unless the restrictions loosen, is showing no signs of becoming more viable.

Regardless of the perceived unfriendliness of the market to foreign online casinos, Slovakia is showing strong and continuous economic growth, paving the way for a more operable framework in Slovakia.

We recommend you to involve your language service provider as early as possible in the Slovak localization process. This way, you will avoid pitfalls and the need to rework later, meaning you will experience no delays in getting your global growing going. We are quick, reliable, and a highly trusted partner across the gaming industry.

We have a world-class localization team for Slovak and have spent the last decade recruiting Slovak writers with a big passion for games and sports and an impeccable understanding of iGaming terminology. We also offer SEO and audiovisual services in Slovak.
